The types of eye tests

Vision test

A Vision test is the basic eye test that can help diagnose vision problems. 

This test examines if there is a change in your eyesight and measures how accurately you can see from a distance. 

Your optometrist will use a chart with numbers or letters to see how well you can see them. 

A vision test will usually take less than 15 minutes!

OCT tests are usually recommended for people over the age of 25, however, it can be helpful for people of all ages.  

This test is a very quick process and will only take a few minutes.  

There are many benefits of taking an OCT test 

It will test and protect you against eye conditions such as: 

• Glaucoma
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Macular hole
• Diabetic retinopathy

Visual field test

A Visual field test examines any dysfunction in your central and peripheral vision.  

This means it tests how far your eyes can see in every direction!  

Your Optometrist will ask you to keep your gaze fixed and examine your eye’s visual fields from different angles.  

This test is a simple process and will only take 10 to 15 minutes.  

The visual field test also helps you to diagnose if you have eye conditions such as: 

• Glaucoma
• Blind spots
• Eye injuries

Glaucoma test

This eye test is done to examine and prevent Glaucoma, caused by extra fluid buildup in the eye. 

Also known as the “silent thief of sight”, Glaucoma shows no early symptoms.

It can slowly lead to dizziness and if left untreated, it can eventually cause complete blindness and vision loss. 

During this test, your optometrist will do the following tests 

• Visual field test
• Imaging test
• Angle test
• Eye pressure test

Early detection of Glaucoma will help early treatment which can slow down vision loss and preserve your eyesight. 

This is why doctors always recommend a Glaucoma test at least once a year if you are over 40 years.
